The prior character of the spaces in the ruins was more introverted and brings the most intimate moments to the domestic spaces, and the ones that contrast most with the exterior, like the open courtyards that were generated by the walls and the process of the ruin. A continuum of intermediate spaces of new construction joins their diverse states of conservation and the character of their position-orientation, bringing complementary spaces to the project. The generation of different filters for control, climate, light and privacy is explored, like a system of articulations connecting landscapes and moments.
The remains of the existing building are treated like a consolidated ruin, with concrete walls and slabs that evoke the original volume, emphasizing the closed character of the former structure. The most private areas have a certain independence at their extremes, and between them they envelope a continuous space that adapts to the topography.

Located in the medieval quarter of Cáceres, the compound onto which the new project was added consisted of two very different constructions; both quite dilapidated by years of disuse. The new building adapts to the existing structures like a hermit crab taking up residence inside an abandoned shell. The old structures are revitalized and rehabilitated by the new uses, and in turn, the contemporary architecture dwells harmoniously within its historic surroundings: a respectful and dignified coexistence.
The resulting building accommodates two complementary activities: the new home of the Atrio restaurant and a small Relais-Châteaux hotel with fourteen guestrooms.
This new functional organism conforms to the irregularities it encounters along the perimeter of the existing buildings, revealing itself on the exterior only within the landscaped courtyard as a fabric of slender white concrete columns.

The fundamental condition of this project is the edge, next to the historic rampart where the building is sited and at the limit of Roa de Duero, between the artificial and the natural, the urban and the rural landscape. The building program, intended to house the headquarters of the Consejo Regulador (Regulatory Board) of the Ribera del Duero wine region, includes offices, emblematic spaces and a small auditorium; uses that revolve around the idea of public space. The project is built in Roa with local stone masonry. It is conceived of as a solemn, massive element, reinforcing the idea of an anti-modern building, a building of unlimited durability, built with a material that mutates and changes with the passage of time. The relation between the building and the historical traces of the place reveal a reality that explains and revalues the specific context. A new reality, the fruit of a series of improbable and unexpected factors.

Oropesa is known for its castle, built in 1402 as the residence for a noble family from Toledo, who undertook the construction of an unfinished aerial connection between the castle and the Nuestra señora de la Asunción church. The structure is supported by arches and walls that cut across the city, and in which these houses are embedded. The houses were small, with many divisions, and in ruins. They had two shared courtyards behind one of the facades, with wide brick arches crossing them. The project opens a long, narrow courtyard/crack, which defines two asymmetrical houses on either side, built for two siblings. The roofs were dismantled and rebuilt a meter higher, reusing the clay roof tiles. The two structures are linked together by the two powerful brick arches, which are protected as historical monuments.

The new addition to the Fine Arts Museum of Asturias is part of an urban complex which, through its successive enlargements, has been making room for what is now one of the best art collections in Spain. Before this addition the museum´s most important architectural piece was the Palace of Velarde, a superb renaissance palace, which was hidden on one side by an unfortunate new building from the 1970s, a construction that hopefully will be demolished when the second phase of the expansion project is built. The proposed addition, as is logical, is part of an analysis of the whole museum, including existing buildings as well as the two phases of the expansion. The project proposes a new building built behind the historic facade, which adapts to the structure of the existing urban fabric, generating a relationship of urban tension and great architectural intensity in the space between the two constructions.

This project reclaims and redefines the area surrounding the Temple of Diana in Merida, which was the ancient forum, or centre, of the Roman city. Working together with the team of archaeologists a set of rules and guidelines for intervention were defined, which helped develop syntax for the project capable of absorbing the irregularities and modifications uncovered by the archaeological excavations.
To restore the outline of the Roman space, a perimeter structure was built along the edge of the site. This permits the recovery of the open plaza that existed in the Roman era, while respecting the archaeological elements that defined the ancient sacred space. The design takes the form of an “L” that stitches together the limit with the current city fabric and liberates a large area around the temple. Therefore, more than a building, the project is a structure that is capable of generating a new urban stratum, filled with program. At the same time, the structure casts a long shadow over the plaza.
